The mission of the S.A.L.T. Shakers program is to assist senior citizens through training, activities and wellness in order to aid in maintaining quality of life and function as long as possible for each individuals.
This program was established in 1993 to address the men and women who receive services and their desire for retirement from employment settings. S.A.L.T. Shakers also addresses the various life challenges that many older individuals with ID/RD are faced with including Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The curriculum for this program is cognitively based with a focus on the retention of daily living skills. The program incorporates community inclusion opportunties through volunteerism with Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, painting pottery at Hearts of Clay Pottery Studio, intergenerational therapy, pet therapy and sesory motor activities to enhance quality of life.
